[M4F] The Cartographer Charts The One Shoreline He Never Left

You find your way to a coastal mapmaker's studio and the man who has drawn every coastline in the world confesses there is one stretch of shore he kept for himself, the one where you first walked with

I know you think of coastlines as lines on a page, neat curves someone traced once and never looked at again. But I have drawn every shore on this side of the world, and I can tell you the truth. A coast is not drawn twice the same way. It shifts with every tide, every storm, every quiet afternoon when the water simply decides to take a little more than it gave. And of all the coasts I have ever mapped, there is one I never finished. It is the one where you first walked with me. You do not remember it. You were young, and the light was in your eyes, and you only paused long enough to ask whether the little inlet on the old chart was real or just the artist being generous. I said it was real. I said I had been there. I did not tell you that I drew it because a person can spend a lifetime looking at all the places they have never been, and then stop and realize the place they were always meant to chart was standing right beside them. Tonight there is no daylight, no window left open to the salt wind. Just the two of us and the low warm lamp over the drafting table, the smell of ink and cedar, and the sound of the tide far below the studio. I want to chart you the way I charted that shore. By hand. Unhurried. Learning each line the way water learns a beach, with patience, with weight, with the slow certainty of something that has been waiting for years. Let me start with the curve of your shoulder, the way it turns when you relax into me. I want to spend a long time here. The pen I have used for a thousand maps has never found a contour it liked more. You have been holding tension here for so long, and I am going to press it out with my palm, warm and steady, until you let your head fall back and trust that I am not going anywhere. There is a particular quiet that comes over a person when they finally let themselves be known. I have heard it in the hush between waves. I have heard it now, in the way your breathing slows, the way your hand finds the back of my neck and pulls me down to you. This is the part of the map no one else will ever see. This is the inlet I kept hidden. I have been waiting my whole career, my whole life, to draw exactly this. Let me trace the line of your jaw with my lips. Let me feel the small shiver that runs through you when I whisper your name against your skin. You are not a line on a page. You are the reason the page exists. And I am going to take my time proving it, from the hollow of your throat down to where your pulse beats warm against my mouth, every inch a place I have decided belongs, in the end, to us. You may have thought a man who charts the sea would be distant, all angles and ink and half-finished margins. But I have been reading you the way sailors read the sky, and the forecast is clear: we are staying in tonight. I am going to love you with the same patient attention I have given every harbor, every reef, every fragile stretch of coastline I ever swore I would protect. And this time the coast is you. Say that you will stay until I have mapped every inch of you. Say it. Good girl. Then let me show you what it means when a man who has spent his life looking at the far horizon finally decides the only place he ever wanted to keep is here, with you, warm and breathless and entirely mine. The tide comes in. The tide goes out. And you, my love, are the one shore I will never leave.
